Weekly Parent Tips from Responsible Sports
Avoid the dreaded PGA. Not the Professional Golfer's Association but the Post Game Analysis. If you find yourself doing most of the talking as you're breaking down the game on the way home, it's probably time to change the subject.
Weekly Coaching Tips from Responsible Sports
"I think a coach should definitely, when they make the commitment to coach, realize their role as a teacher. And everything they do, everything they say, is soaked up by these athletes, in good and bad ways. So they really need to be a good role model in their direction."
Follow the three C's: have set consequences that are applied calmly and consistently. A coach becoming negative or getting visibly angry with players should be viewed as a sign of weakness and a lack of self-discipline.
Avoid the obvious criticism. Players usually know when they've made a mistake.
"Gloves For Love"
This is a program looking for new and used baseball/softball gloves and helmets that will be sent to underprivileged youth in the Dominican Republic. Today these boys and girls have to use garbage bags and milk cartons in lieu of gloves, the use of which often results in injuries.
